Australia's Defence Cooperation With the Vanuatu Mobile Force
The Australian Federal Police were kicked out of Vanuatu on allegations of spying and pretty quickly China stepped in with non-lethal material for the VMF. The ADF had no one at Cooks Barracks and the AFP had been kicked out so I guess there was a decision once the penny dropped in Canberra a few years ago that China really was on the march in the region and it needed to step up. So yes you know climate change and China are the two real reasons that it's necessary for Australia to increase its defence cooperation to places like Vanuatu.
