The Importance of Structure in Poetry
Hope is a Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson is one of her most often quoted poems. One aspect that makes it so memorable and easy to quote is that it is written in a common meter. A stanza is like a poem's paragraph, or a short section, which usually contains an idea. The following stanzas then elaborate on that idea or present new ideas themselves.
