The Existential Catastrophe
The way i'm defining an excidential catastrophe is when our potential gets destroyed. And this would be a situation where our potential was never lost. There's no irreversible moment. We just carry along a bad path, and for millions of years, while we could have turned back, we never do. I think that the virtue of the definition t would be even nicer if it included all such cases or something. But they're quite different in some ways.
