The Milky Way's Peak Might Be Over

Scientists think that the milky way itself is beginning to quench. If you look out into the far universe, you might be seeing galaxies that have died already. We do see a lot of galaxies that aren't dead. What's killing all these galaxies? Why are there so many galaxies out there that are already quenched and have stopped making new stars?
