The Complexity of Shamanism in Mentawi
In Mentawi they're known as cicare and are regarded as special, powerful humans. In the healing ceremonies, it's almost always the male who is called. But I actually in my data set of 40 something ceremonies, don't have a single one in which a female is called. So I don't want to say that females are never called. It's quite clear to many people that, that it's a service because, you know, you're sick, you have to choose among these cicare.
