How a Sociologist Does Their Work

Sociology is a very eclectic discipline, not just theoretically in the kinds of theories that we apply to understand the world, but also in the methods that we use. I am not just somebody who is passing around surveys, though I absolutely do that. But I'm also engaging in, say, experimental designs to be able to determine what is the cause of some kind of treatment. The best sociology is the one that gathers any kind of available data that is appropriate to understand that phenomenon and does so in a systematic and rigorous way.
