You can buy a transistor for one 10 millionth of the price we sold in the late 1950s. No other manufactured product that I can identify has undergone a similar decrease in price. It took teamwork, innovation and collaboration across industry and academia to make transistors shrink steadily by 30% every two years. This is what has resulted in exponential improvement over the last almost six decades.
