Gus wagner and maud v stevens met at the saint louis world's fair in 18 93. He began tattooing her, then taught her to give tattoos with the stick and poke method. She therefore became the first known professional female tattoo artist. There is evidence of them operating in kansas city from 19 o six to 19 o seven.
