Shelley's father confessed his incestuous desire for her and then committed suicide by drowning himself. She had tried to stop him but couldn't. The next novel of Mary's, Val Perga, or the Life and Adventures of Castruccio, Prince of Luca is next. It's not a widely read novel but it's a good example of the kind of novel that men like Sir Walter Scott were writing at the time.
