The multi- component model of working memory was proposed by Graham Hitch in 1974. There are four parts to the system: phonological loop, visual spatial sketchpad, essential executive, and episodic buffer. Conrad's demonstration that remembering sequences of verbal material appeared to operate acoustically or verbally led him to this theory.
