Is the Crack-Up a Confessional Failure?

When the crack-up is published in 1936, it's perceived as by his contemporaries such as Ernest Hemingway and John Dost-Pasovs as both an awful confessional failure. And also an embarrassment. But he had a marvellous talent and the thing is to use it. The epigromatic in Fitzgerald, oaths have been able to write a paragraph this good. Just the command of tone here and the intelligence, you know, he couldn't think. He never could.
