AppSumo used to have these workshops where you would try and sell something that you came up with on Craigslist. That's actually a good idea to test your hypothesis in a very cheap and fast way. If you're talking to somebody and they instantly don't get it, obviously there's not a market at least for that kind of person you're talking to.
