The way electricity is generated is changing, and that means you need new wiring. The ideal would be to have huge batteries - but that's not really vauable right now. So the second best thing you can do is to shift electricity across space,. And that's where cabling comes in. Denmark has installed a huge amount of wind turbines. When the wind blows, both places, denmark and norway, use danish wind power. But when the wind doesn't blow every day, so it needs a plan b. More elegant solution is a cable to norway, which also has ample hydro electric potential.
