Why We Shouldn't Give Humanity Unlimited Energy

$20 billion for a program that could solve our energy problems seems cheap. We should be investing way more money in this, but funding is a huge issue. This is an expensive problem and it's a big gamble. Even if we do dial in the technology, we don't know if it will ever be commercially viable. Can we ever get it inexpensive enough to be realistic?
