Flying Machines

The pursuit of a flying machine was synonymous with an unbalanced mind in the late 1800s. Those trying to solve the flying problem were written off as either thrill seeking dare devils or delusional cranks. This attitude is perhaps best summed up by the american poet john townson townsbridge in 18 69. The poem titled darius green and his flying machine was a popular little rhyme that told the story of a country bumpkin named darius green, who is just simple enough to think he could fly.
