When I was a young woman, autism was something that was not really known. It was people who were nonverbal and basically, you know, it was some deep and obvious malfunction somewhere. And looking back, mothers who had children who had were on the autistic spectrum who had these issues were just considered to be bad mothers. While trying to get to grips with a child who they were always taught was behaving like that because it was their fault or the child was bad or both couldn't keep up with basic care stuff. That caused a lot of long-term lasting harm that people are still feeling today.
