CHAPTER

Is There a Pain in Purgatory?

Protestants have kind of a warped view of the doctrine of purgatory as though it's, oh, you have to pay a price for all your sins. And that is not how it was originally conceptualized. It was conceptualized as I am on my way to meeting my maker, the creator of the universe. We won't go to great pains to be beautiful for our bridegroom, Jesus Christ. That's a whole different way of thinking of purgatories in this process and that there may be pains in purgatory. Although, Lewis said purgatory was edifying speculation, not doctrine.
