Is There a RomanNumeral System?

The roman numeral system has been criticised for being too restrictive. The number of characters in a dog's name is limited to 50, but there are more than 40 different breeds and colours. This means that if you have 37 dogs with the same name it runs out at 37. So how do we get around this? We could just change the way they write their numerals. But why not let them be negative instead of positive? That would allow us to count up to 132 using just six characters per dog. There should be an overhaul of the numbering system so people don't end up with such long names.
