The Consensus of the New Deal
CNN's John Sutter talks to Aaron Miller about the Kennedy administration and its policies in Latin America. The new deal ideals that the thought was we could universalize this to the rest of the world are contradictory, he says. It inflames comprador classes when you try to push for something like the new deal, which is coming into conflict with financial elements in the U.S., as well as their allies domestically wherever they go. How does JFK approach Brazilian policy in light of all this Western capital invested there? There's a whole book on this, which really will be done by Gerard Colby but it'll be written by Charlotte Dennett also.
