Trenette asked whether this verse can be traced back to Exodus 34. The assumption that disciples have is if somebody is blind, it's either because they wronged God or neighbor in some way or their parents did. So certainly the assumption under their question is based on the idea of children's suffering. In this case it would fit into that category of suffering innocently because of the sins of their ancestors. And I think Jesus disagrees with that. He says, no, that's not an adequate explanation. That also disagrees with what we are saying is one of the main points of Exodus 34, 6 and 7.
