Psychopaths and sociopaths have a lack of compassion. Callousness, i think, is a really common characteristic of who are high in psychopathy. Samine says it's a matter of degree, more than a matter of kind. For most personality disorders, there might be some exceptions,. But most personail disorders, it's not the case that if you meet the threshold for disorder, you're qualitatively different from someone who's close to the threshold but doesn't cross.
