Why US Elections Are So Expensive
We spent $14.5 billion on the 2020 presidential senate and congressional elections, which is a crazy amount of money. Why are US elections so expensive compared to pretty much everywhere else on the planet? I'm thinking about democracy as an information system; it's an algorithm for taking what everybody thinks and turning that into policies. And plus it's so hackable in our election systems. You know, all of these hacks on the political process, in a sense, open primaries, closed primaries, that's a hack.
