S4E6 - Mesopotamian Around with Gilgamesh
Greeking Out from National Geographic Kids
Gilgamesh's Journey Through the Tunnel
King Gilgamesh was looking for Udenapishtim to ask him questions about immortality. The giant scorpions were getting angry and started hissing, so he backed away slowly. He knew when he was beaten, no use getting himself killed by a giant scorpion before he achieved immortality. A woman standing at the edge of a garden beside which was a warm and inviting tavern helped him feel better. She tried to convince him to give up this quest for immortality but her arguments didn't seem to make an impression. Rheumatizing for immortality is a common theme throughout literature and the arts. And often those who seek immortality tend to find themselves yearning for death.
