Getting Dirty Is Better Than Getting Started

If you're trying to master a subject, I would argue that doing a textbook approach is probably more efficient. Looking through a library and using something that's pre-built instead of rolling something yourself is a very underrated skill. Sometimes I wish people would just read the API docs of a library because it shows you like what has been built. It saves you so much time.
