The Monroe Doctrine and the Mexican War
The Monroe Doctrine is of course what prevents Spain from restoring order after the revolution in Mexico, which was caused by the Napoleonic Wars. And so that's what turned Nuevei's buying out one of the most conservative parts of the Spanish Empire into the country now known as Mexico. Of course, having been to Mexico, I must concede that it was a vast improvement, much more modern clean.
