Crawford Lake: A Sinkhole in Limestone Rock
Crawford Lake is a sinkhole in limestone rock, so it's a relatively deep hole that's dropped down as rocks been eroded underneath. The fact that the lake is deep means that the waters at the top don't then get mixed up with the water at the bottom. What you get is this very clear and clean succession of layers - like plutonium isotopes or carbon pascals from coal-fung power stations.
