The method of Bible study is to take each word on its own and think about what that word means so when David said the king who was reflecting late in his life back on the days when he was a kid as a shepherd he said the Lord is my shepherd. You're not trying to achieve some Zen like state you're just trying to find some peace and quiet in your life long enough to let God speak to you in the way that he prefers which is the still calm voice.
