The History of Every Midshipman

We don't really know much about the beginning of his naval career. There are stories about him joining the English Royal Navy at the age of 12, sailing to places like North Africa and the Caribbean. The first time that we can reliably place every is in 1689 when he was pushing 30. He continued work in the Royal Navy for a few more years before finally leaving his military career behind him in 1691. At this point, Every chose to take up one of the most morally reprehensible occupations in human history by becoming a slaver.
