Is It a Socker Ball or a Fowl?
In 20 ten minnesota twins player denard span was lead off batter in a game against the tampar rays. He hit a hard fowl that went into the stands and struck his own mother in her chest. Span went to check on her as she was treated, and she was, thankfully fine. But he eventually left the game and said it was cause his head wasn't in it. That left his mam angrier than getting hit, because she came to watch him play so ya. The article noted that this was a spring training game, and that the ball parks for these are smaller than the stadiums for the regular season games.
In 1857 guests at Washington D.C.'s National Hotel began to come down with a mysterious illness. One of them was James Buchanan, who was preparing to assume the presidency of the United States. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe the deadly outbreak and the many theories that were offered to explain it.
