I met Harris through separate connections, common political interests. At the time he was 16, I was very bored with college thinking of dropping down. He suggested to me that I start taking his graduate courses. Basically, I had no background, but they were very fine. A faculty who didn't care much and were willing to tolerate my ignorance. Write a what's now called a generative grammar. It existed at the time. But it went on to become what became Generative Grammar.
