We're Not Listening Long Enough
The idea that we haven't been listening long enough, falls flat because even if that was the case, ike, we would be surrounded by multiple layers of alien life that is constantly broadcastang. The other one is that we're all listening and no one's transmitting, because the amount of energy needed to transmit a signal to other planets or other stars is not very high. One of the reasons why we might not be seeing alien species that broadcast their locations is because someth about broadcasting your location results in your civilization no longer existing. Maybe advanced civilizations that are out there basically are listening for people who are broadcast in the location and destroy them before they can have a chance to be a competitor
