In good society, ladies do not go about under the care of gentlemen. A well-behaved young girl goes to public dances only when properly chaperoned. It is impossible for any man to take a lady to a party at which she has not been personally invited by the hostess. There is no such actual person known to good society, at least not in New York or any great city, as an Escort.
