The Importance of Taiwan for Semiconductor Manufacturing

Some argue that the huge significance of Taiwan for semiconductors makes war more likely because China might in some way try and invade to get hold of those semiconductors or technology. Other people say that it makes war way less likely because war would be devastating, it would probably destroy the factory and that end up with no chips at all. So where do you stand on this? Do you think it makes the possibility of conflict between China and the West more or less likely? I think when Chinese leaders assess the situation in Taiwan they're not primarily thinking about semiconductors. Reality is the Chinese Communist Party has wanted to control Taiwan since before the first semiconductor was invented.
