Alimelek is worried about his family because of the famine. He moves his family to Moab where God had strictly forbidden his people from living in Moab. The Moabites were conceived out of incest, and that was the beginning of their issues. They worshiped the false God, Chemosh, and they honestly would sacrifice children to this false God. In Psalm 60 verse 8, he said, Moab is my wash basin. This is where I wash my dirty feet.
