Tren: Black patients tend to be less activated than white patients on average. This difference can stem largely from inter personal and structural racism within the health care system that can limit access to health knowledge and resources. The activated patient asked more direct questions about their pain management, their prognosis, about the treatment recommendations from the doctor. They asked questions when they didn't understand something, and would redirect the discussion when their concerns weren't being addressed.
