Thereare so many people that i've met totally outside of my activism, who lament about working a job that they hate. They have this total paralysis of san but if i quit, my jobe woult have health care. That's another thing that i find so heart breaking. But as you point out, what does is it works as thi stortof shadow oppressive mechanism to keep people from exploring and taking risks.
