A misconception about the book is that Chan and Ridley are 100% convinced that SARS-CoV-2 originated in a lab. This is wrong. The author's position is that the lab origin and natural origins hypotheses are both viable, but neither one can be ruled out based on current evidence. Due to their own uncertainty about the origin of SARS- CoV-2, Chan and Ridley actually do a pretty good job of laying out the case for natural origins. However, many of the authors' points have counterpoints from other scientists who lean more heavily towards the natural origin's hypothesis.
