China wants to be seen as a stable power that is in favor of stability, not instability. They know there's a political gap in the Middle East and this fits into their plan to reconfigure the global order. In that sense, I don't see that they've got as much to lose as perhaps one might say. So could you see a future where essentially for the US in the words of Leonard Cohen, they're out of the game in the Mideast?
