On September 28th, 1928, Dr. Alexander Fleming returned from vacation to find mold growing in his Petri dishes accidentally discovering penicillin. On June 6th, 1944, the Allied forces stormed the beach at Normandy in a maneuver known as Operation Overlord or D-Day. In 1972, Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to Congress became the first black candidate for a major party nomination when she ran to be the Democratic presidential nominee.
