Is There a Constitutional Need for a General Election?
If there was a general election now, the Conservatives would certainly be turfed out and might be absolutely hammered. But there is no legal or constitutional necessity for such an action. The way that the British political system works is when a Prime Minister is eyes, as opposed to a government resigning then it's simply a matter of the governing party picking a new leader by whatever means they want to.
