The Revolt of Avidius Cassius

Commodus donned the toga of manhood in July 175, rather than back home and Rome as would have been customary. The settlement with the various German tribes seemed to be holding, and for the first time in a long time, Rome had no enemies to fight,. so the emperor was free to return home. Father and son wentered in Alexandria and then spent 176 making their way back to Rome. Both emperor and heir were inducted into the LSE in mysteries - an act that demonstrated some degree of normalcy was returning to the middle empire.
