Are We the Policemen of the World?

i think that it used to be kind of conventional wisdom, just assumed, going wisdom, that american policy should basically take our direct national security interests into account. I man, that it's impossible now to advance that claim and not be laughed out of court. It does seem as if this is an area in which, in addition to not particularly caring about the local politics, Americans are likely to be quite wary of any kind of conventional, so called conventional wisdom.
