Why Should We Spend on Immigrants?
When I left India in 1985, every IIT and who could get a job in the States would just make a beeline for the United States. And so we used to call that the brain drain problem, right? The standard response used to be that it's better than the brains being in the drain because if they were over here, they would not be deployed productively. So keeping these people trapped in India will do India any good. It'll just hurt them.
