The Importance of Earth's Circular Orbit
The seasons have virtually nothing to do with how close or far Earth is from the Sun at any given moment. If it evolved on a planet around a close binary star system isn't a good position to spot that, those stars seem to orbit something themselves that they cannot see. Other planets with greater eccentricities would likely have a weather and seasonal cycle strongly affected by that eccentricity. Even tidally locked planets around dim or red stars can have significant seasons as a result of that eccentricy.
