You make the point that often a lot of these reforms have been, at least in principle, either about simplifying or perhaps making the system more fair. So where do you think that's gone wrong? E in this particularly, i guess, either from the perspectiveof, economically, what we're trying to do, or also actually from the kind of machinery of government. I think it's a, there's the sort of, if you like, blame on the left and the right on this. And so it's quite a complicated story, i think, in terms of, you know, where we collectively have gone wrong?
James Plunkett's new book, End State: 9 Ways Society is Broken, draws on his years working in both public policy and at the top tiers of government. A former advisor to UK prime minister Gordon Brown, his book looks at how to reboot some key ideas ranging from commerce to healthcare for a nation such as the UK in order to provide better quality of life for larger sections of society.
