What Is a Class E Felony?

The New York State Bar Association and the New York Criminal Defense Association found that Michael Avenatti's case is a class e felony. The DA pushed these into a category that includes arson, aggravated sexual abuse, rape in the third degree. Those are all class E felonies, lowest level felonies in New York state. And it's first first year Bragg downgraded 52% of felonies to misdemeanors compared to 39% downgraded in 2019.
