Detection of Interstitial Lung Abnormalities
Interstitial lung abnormality features were previously regarded as insignificant. They should now be included in the CT report because of their potential clinical significance, including progression of disease and association with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The presence of fibrosis has been shown to correlate with increased mortality. Patients with one or more risk factors for interitional lung abnormality progression are categorized as high risk.
