The First Drop of Parachutes
The roar of 131 aircraft soon deadened other sounds. This was a most stirring sound to nigel poett and his advanced headquarters party, who had jumped in the leading aircraft with the independent parachute company. Half an hour after the first landings, north of ronville, the main body of parachutes of the fifth brigade arrived. Had it been daylight, the scene on the ground must have presented a remarkable picture. The speed and orderliness with which this jumble of human beings was sorted into formed fighting units was a fine tribute to the steadiness and individual initiative o all ranks.
