Macedonians invaded the ancient land of the pharaohs. The egyptians declared that the conquering alexander was no less than a god. But then suddenly, in three 23 b c, alexander died in babylon,. setting off a series of power struggles between alexander's generals and family members which historians have playfully called the alexandrian funeral games. It is perhaps just a little too jolly a name for what were essentially a series of civil wars.
