Is APOE4 Maladaptive?
When people have copies of APOE4, whether it's one or two, they have increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. E4 carriers will develop inflammation and do not know how to tune it down. So acute inflammation becomes chronic inflammation and endocrine chronic inflammation results into neuronal loss. This is a hypothesis. I'm not saying that this is true or false. We're studying it as we speak. There are hundreds of reasons why somebody can be resistant to insulin resistance. And one individual may have better cognitive function at the same level of insulin resistance than another person. Such so exciting."
